¶¶Òõappn Island Public Hearing Set on Mayoral Control of New ¶¶Òõapp City Schools

Public Invited to Provide Oral and Written Electronic Testimony

The final of five public hearings will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2024, at New Dorp High School in ¶¶Òõappn Island as part of the ¶¶Òõapp’s comprehensive review of the overall effectiveness of mayoral control of New ¶¶Òõapp City schools, the New ¶¶Òõapp ¶¶Òõapp Education Department announced today. In accordance with Chapter 364 of the Laws of 2022, all members of the public—including students, parents, teachers, school administrators and staff, and individuals with experience and expertise in education policy and school governance—are welcome to provide feedback on their experiences, assessments, and/or review of the mayoral control system of New ¶¶Òõapp City schools to help inform the ¶¶Òõapp’s review.

Advanced online registration to present in-person, oral remarks is required. Members of the public may participate by providing in-person, oral testimony at one of five public hearings, and/or by submitting written electronic testimony by 5 p.m. on January 31, 2024.

For each hearing, individuals wishing to testify must complete the online Request to Testify form in full. The forms will be made available online prior to each hearing. Registration for each hearing will close 48 hours prior to the start of the hearing, or whenever all available speaking slots have been filled, whichever comes first. Public remarks from members of the public that live or work in each respective borough will be prioritized. Oral testimony will be limited to three minutes per speaker, and presenters will testify in the order in which they arrive at the hearing. Longer statements will be accepted via written electronic testimony.

All hearings are accessible by public transportation. ASL interpretation services, as well as translation services for non-native English speakers will be made available at no cost. Each public hearing will be livestreamed and recorded.
